What is a diamond plate?

A diamond plate is also interchangeable known as a stainless steel diamond plate, tread plate, floor plate, Durbar plate or checker plate. A diamond plate either has lines or a raised diamond pattern. One side usually has the pattern while the reverse side is featureless.

What material is used to manufacture the plates?

The light weight plates can be made of aluminum, steel or stainless steel. Plates made of steel are either made by using the hot rolling method or by pressing a raised diamond design. The later is what modern manufacturers are now using. Hot rolling involves heating the metals above recrystallization temperatures allowing the grains to deform, and then allowed to cool.

Where can the plate be used?

The pattern that is embedded on the plate is perfect for providing skid resistance for a variety of applications where corrosive resistance is also needed. Such applications are but not limited to; interiors of ambulances, ramps, platforms, walkways, running boards, stair treads, truck and trailer bed flooring, trench covers, catwalks, mezzanine and exercise rooms. Highly polished aluminum plates can be as a decorative material.

What are the qualities of the plate?

1) Its lightweight characteristic make it easy to weld.
2) Very easy to cut through.
3) Easy to form into different shapes and patterns.



Proper installation is also very crucial. Make sure that there are no turned up edges, sharp corners and uneven areas.

2) Use a proper saw depending on the shape that you are cutting.
3) Sand down the loose edges.
